people with passion

OperaModa's mission is to highlight American operas and bring modern masterworks of operatic talent to the Chicago public. OperaModa focuses first and foremost on making opera relevant. We present only American operas with modern, relevant themes, and pride ourselves on getting out there and breaking stereotypes. From radio operas to ensemble pieces with full costume and orchestra at the 1000-seat Athenaeum Theater in Chicago, we put opera's newest and most controversial works out there for American audiences to see. For us, it's never over until the hot sopranos sing.

OperaModa's second focus is role opportunities for young singers in the difficult "transitional" phase of a career -- out of school, but not yet under management or under the aegis of a major company. While large opera companies provide apprentice programs for young singers, those young singers might never sing a major role onstage -- an important step for any young artist to take to move forward in their career. OperaModa is dedicated to providing young professional Chicago-area singers with quality performance opportunities through the production of modern operas for supportive local audiences. Catch them now, before the Met catches them first!
